URAYASU CITY -- Under a licensing agreement with The Walt Disney Company, Oriental Land Co., Ltd. has announced that it will open a new theme park titled Tokyo DisneySea, on September 4, 2001. |
Overlooking Tokyo Bay on a site adjacent to Tokyo Disneyland Park, Tokyo DisneySea will take advantage of its seaside location and draw upon the myths, legends and lore of the ocean as the inspiration for its attractions and shows. This new theme park promises to be an epic voyage into a world of excitement and romance that will awaken the spirit of adventure in everyone. |
Upon entering the Park, guests will be greeted by the DisneySea AquaSphere, a unique, globe- shaped fountain which represents our Earth, the "water planet.'' The AquaSphere will amaze viewers with dynamic cascades of water that flow down and around the globe, mysteriously clinging to its surface. |
Beyond the entrance, Tokyo DisneySea will be divided into seven distinct "ports of call.'' Guests will experience the old- world charm of the romantic southern European seaport of Mediterranean Harbor; discover portals to fantastic adventures deep within a smoldering volcano known as Mysterious Island; find the whimsical "under the sea'' world of Ariel and all her friends from the classic Disney animated film, "The Little Mermaid,'' in Mermaid Lagoon; encounter Aladdin and his playful Genie pal when they explore the exotic enchantment of "1001 Arabian Nights'' along the shores of Arabian Coast; confront ancient perils and hidden mysteries in the jungles of Lost River Delta; travel across the horizons of time to Port Discovery, a futuristic marina that celebrates the thrills, adventure and excitement of new frontiers in the sea and sky; and take a step back in time to American Waterfront, which nostalgically showcases the harbors of New York and Cape Cod at the beginning of the 20th century. |
The exciting adventures and romantic tales to be found at these seven ports of call will be experienced through never- before- seen attractions. In Mysterious Island, guests will venture to the ocean floor to explore the lost city of Atlantis in "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,'' and take a thrilling journey far below an active volcano in "Journey to the Center of the Earth.'' |
In Arabian Coast guests will board boats in "Sindbad's Seven Voyages" with the famous sailor on a storybook journey through his treacherous travels. Boarding well- worn transports in the ''Indiana Jones Adventure -- Temple of the Crystal Skull," visitors to the jungles of Lost River Delta will join intrepid ''Indiana Jones" on a perilous journey through the secret corridors of a foreboding Central American pyramid. |
Guests will also experience all the thrills of soaring high above the clouds and diving into the eye of a storm when they board "StormRider'' in Port Discovery. In addition to these and other attractions, Tokyo DisneySea will also feature dazzling live entertainment shows and events, distinctive fine dining and unique shopping opportunities. |
And, the guests will enjoy encounters with the world famous Disney characters including Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Donald Duck, as well as the Genie from "Aladdin'' and Ariel from "The Little Mermaid.'' |
Another unique aspect of Tokyo DisneySea will be the addition of a richly themed, luxury hotel to be constructed inside the Park. Located on the Park's main waterfront in Mediterranean Harbor, the Tokyo DisneySea Hotel MiraCosta will offer breathtaking views of the Park and Tokyo Bay. As an integral part of the overall experience, the Tokyo DisneySea Hotel MiraCosta will allow guests to continue "living the dream'' by staying overnight in the park's adventure- filled world. |
Upon completion of this new theme park, Tokyo DisneySea and Tokyo Disneyland will complement and enhance each other. The foundation for Tokyo Disneyland will continue to be traditional, classic Disney stories of fantasy, dreams and magic, and Tokyo DisneySea will present experiences based on a wealth of ocean lore and facts, focusing on imaginative worlds of adventure, romance, discovery and fun. |
Walt Disney once said of Disneyland, his original park in Anaheim, Calif., that it would never be completed as long as there is imagination left in the world. This is certainly true for the Tokyo Disney Resort experience. With the addition of Tokyo DisneySea right next to Tokyo Disneyland, the grand tradition of Disney family entertainment will continue for an audience that is growing every year. |
